Cervicitis: What is it?

    What’s Cervicitis?  Cervicitis is inflammation of the cervix that can affect almost half of all women at some time during their lives. What Causes Cervicitis? Causes include infections such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, and trichomoniasis. Infections with viruses such as herpes simplex virus (HSV) or human papillomavirus (HPV). Bacteria such as staphylococcus and streptococcus are other causes. Sometimes a foreign body such as an intrauterine device (IUD) or a forgotten tampon, diaphragm, or pessary can lead to cervicitis.
